Completely agree. The only entertainment I need is guys pushing their cars to the absolute limit. This new format is a joke.. Just let the guys go out and run as fast as they can. That's all qualifying is. Who can go the fastest.

The thought was that “oh there will be so many cars running”

Maybe in theory, but take JB for example. He ran one lap, realized he couldn't top it so he just came in and got out of the car because he knew he wouldn't have a shot to try again in a few minutes. And the same happened to Alonso as I typed this.

Exactly, this is terrible.. And they went to commercial while the whole field set their times. I mean wtf?

Right?!? What the fuck are they thinking cutting to commercials at the only good 5 minutes of the session.

And no one is on track right now! What the hell is this shit. I hope they have a meeting after this and trash this shit format.

Exactly. All they need are two sessions. Q1 sets every position outside the top 10, with Q2 being a shootout among the remaining 10 drivers. It’s short, sweet, fair, and would bring plenty of excitement. It’s not that fucking difficult.

Either that or just keeping it how it was before. The old 3 session format worked fine, no need to mess with it

I agree. Anything but this.. Nobody wanted this change, and now we see that hey, maybe the naysayers to this format know a thing or two.

...i...i can’t believe i stayed up for this shit!

longest final 5 minutes of qualie ever, and half that time was with no cars on track.

Yeah. When there's 5 minutes left and 3 of the top 5 positions are walking down pit lane out of their cars, the system is fucked up. absolute horseshit

If I don’t wake up and see a headline that says “meeting held, F1 qualifying format repealed and replaced with previous format” I'm going to be pissed

Yep. Crap on a stick, as predicted.

Sure, with the previous format you could end a qualifying session with no one running if weather or temp change had led to degraded track conditions, but now apparently it’s the default.

“Welp.. looks like we’re done boys, you can have five minutes back. Anyone for tea?”

This really annoys me. For some circuits I enjoy the qualifying as much or more than the actual race. Can you imagine the crapfest if they’re still trying to make this format work by the time Monaco rolls around?

Perils of the US TV station. We have a golden situation in the the UK, the two stations that show are commercial (unlike the BBC, but they don’t do it anymore) but Sky F1 is a subscription service with no ads during racing, channel 4 is not a subscription service but has promised no ads, we shall see about that.

Wow.. that sucks. At least in Canada TSN runs their ads in between the sessions. Though I do miss David Coulthard’s commentary this year - apparently we’re now getting the Sky folks. Brundle is exceedingly knowledgeable, but Coulthard has a degree of dry Scottish wiseass to him that is greatly amusing.
